Wastewater Treatment

Urban water supply and sanitation are important basic needs for the improvement of the quality of life and enhancement of productive efficiency of the people. In urban areas, water is tapped for domestic and industrial uses from rivers, streams, wells and lakes. Almost 80% of the water supplied for domestic use comes out as wastewater. In most of the cases wastewater is let out untreated and it either sinks into the ground as a potential pollutant of ground water or is discharged into the natural drainage system causing pollution in downstream areas.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board, municipal sewage may be defined as “Mostly liquid waste originating from a community; may be composed of domestic wastewaters and/or industrial discharges”. It is major source of water pollution in India, particularly in and around large urban centers. In India about 78% of the urban population has access to safe drinking water and about 38% of the urban population has access to sanitation services.

With the enhancement of drinking water supply to urban areas, the wastewater generation is increasing. If such wastewater is not collected, treated and disposed properly, it will directly contribute to pollution of the locally available freshwater supplies. Additionally, the cumulative results of untreated wastewater can have broad degenerative effects on both public health and ecosystem.

Urban environmental management is one of the most pressing issues as the urbanization trend continues globally. Among the challenges faced by urban planners is the need to ensure ongoing basic human services such as the provision of water and sanitation. The accumulation of human waste is constant, and poorly managed wastewater contributes to the contamination of local freshwater supplies. Also, unmanaged wastewater can have degenerative effects on both public and ecosystem health.

Tatva understands these issues, and is committed to providing efficient and cost effective wastewater management services to its clients.

Ganga Pollution Control Unit, Uttrakhand Pey Jal Nigam - Sewage Treatment Plant.

Tatva has set up a 27 MLD capacity Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) based on the ASP followed by Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) technology, in Haridwar, Uttaranchal for the treatment of sewage generated at Ganges river after the Kumbh Mela.

The technology is based on cyclic activated sludge process, using fine bubble diffused aeration system to provide the required oxygen and to keep the C-Tech basins contents in a completely mixed state. It provides the highest treatment efficiency possible in a single step biological process. Treatment system is operated in a batch reactor mode, which eliminates all the inefficiencies of continuous processes. Two or more modules are provided to ensure continuous treatment. The complete process takes place in a single reactor, within which all biological treatment steps take place sequentially.
This technology gives 50% reduction in power consumption and land requirement & provides excellent quality of treated sewage.

Municipal Corporation of Delhi - Waste Water Treatment Plant

Tatva has set up a wastewater treatment plant using the technology of DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation) followed by UASB, AB process, chlorination & dual media filtration, with a capacity of 1.75 MLD, for the treatment of waste water generated from the slaughter house at the food processing complex of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in Ghazipur.

As wastewater contains high suspended solids, a fine screen has been provided to remove the floating impurities. This is followed by raw water collection & pumping, dissolved air floatation & finally wastewater equalization. The waste water is treated with an up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket technology, which has a compact plant design, less capital cost, less power consumption, low sludge production and produces methane energy as a byproduct. This treated wastewater will then be reused for the irrigation and development of the green belt around the facility.

Reline Engineers Associates Pvt. Ltd. - Sewage Treatment Plant (STP)

Tatva has set up this Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) based on the Chemo Autotrophic Activated Carbon Oxidation (CAACO) technology, with a capacity of 2.05 MLD, for the treatment of domestic sewage generated from corporate premises in Reliance Corporate Park - Nocil, Navi Mumbai.

CAACO is an aerobic treatment technology which immobilizes specially developed micro-organisms/ bacteria in the pores of activated carbon matrix. It is self sustained & once installed the carbon matrix does not require to be changed. Biomass production is negligible, thereby avoiding sludge handling or dewatering issues.

Out of the plant's total capacity, 820m3/day treated water will be further treated with softener to soften water for HVAC use. Also, the treated water will be reused for flushing and horticultural purposes within the corporate premises.

Reliance Industry Limited (RIL) - Waste Water Treatment Plant using UASB Technology

Tatva set up a waste water treatment plant to treat 7.44 MLD of waste water from the PTA Plant in RIL Hazira, Gujarat, utilizing the Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket Reactor (UASB) technology.

The UASB technology utilizes the high COD reduction capacity of especially cultured granular biomass which leads to a smaller sized reactor, minimum use of energy, and elimination of secondary clarification systems.

In addition, the plant efficiently converts the destroyed COD to Biogas, which is used as fuel in fired heaters, thereby minimizing the payback period. This technology minimizes the generation of fresh biomass, resulting in only about 2-3 % of COD being destroyed, as against 25 % of COD being destroyed using Conventional Activated Sludge Systems, hence minimizing the sludge disposal cost.

Biocon Ltd. - Effluent Treatment plant based on UASB Technology

Tatva has set up a 1.16 MLD capacity effluent treatment plant based on Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket Reactor (UASB) technology for the treatment of pharmaceutical wastewater in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Wastewater has been classified in 4 different streams i.e. A, B, C & D, based on the nature of waste characteristics like organic load, TDS and pH parameters. After carrying out various studies for the treatment of waste, Tatva developed treatment schemes like neutralization followed by clarification for pre-treatment of stream B & D & equalization along with waste of stream C prior to the combined treatment. Combined treatment mainly includes physicochemical treatment, followed by secondary biological section which consists of UASB reactors, followed by processing in the aeration tank.

Another byproduct, i.e. the chemical and bio sludge generated from this plant, is fed to dewatering systems to concentrate the sludge quantity for disposal. Also, the Biogas generated from the anaerobic section is collected in biogas holders for use as a source of fuel in the incineration process.

Sabic Research Laboratory - Effluent Treatment Plant

Tatva has set up a wastewater treatment plant for waste water being discharged from the Sabic Research Laboratory, (Sabic is one of the world's largest Petrochemical companies) located in Savli , Dist. Baroda, Gujarat.

The effluent treatment plant was designed and constructed to give flexibility to the operation and to accommodate variations in the effluent discharge pattern & characteristics. The resultant plant was a compact plant equipped to treat any of the parameters contributing to the pollution potential, and to accomplish the Company's policy of zero discharge.

Reliance Industry Limited (RIL) - Effluent Treatment plant based on EGSB followed by UASB technology

Capacity:  3.00 MLD

One of the model projects executed by Tatva is revamping of PTA facilities in RIL. This Effluent Treatment Plant is based on a two-stage anaerobic treatment technology i.e. Expanded Granular Sludge Blanket (EGSB) followed by Up flow Anaerobic Sludge Bed Reactor (UASB) processes for the treatment of effluent generated from the PTA complex in Patalganga, Maharashtra.
